Patented intelligence: Cloning human decision models for Industry 4.0
2018
Industry 4.0 is a trend related to smart factories, which are cyber-physical spaces populated and controlled by the collective intelligence for the autonomous and highly flexible manufacturing purposes. Artificial Intelligence (AI) embedded into various planning, production, and management processes in Industry 4.0 must take the initiative and responsibility for making necessary real-time decisions in many cases. In this paper, we suggest the Pi-Mind technology as a compromise between completely human-expert-driven decision-making and AI-driven decision-making. Pi-Mind enables capturing, cloning and patenting essential parameters of the decision models from a particular human expert making …
Smart Planning and Intelligent Cities: A New Cambrian Explosion
2014
We live in the society of knowledge, creativity and innovation: true anti-cyclical factors with respect to the crisis that has overrun the traditional development protocols and that requires powerful processes of creation and spread of knowledge. The true innovation has no boundaries, it has to affect each aspect of institutions and enterprises and operates as a mutagen of society, requiring a paradigm shift. Startups, fablabs, co-workers, makers and smart citizens have given rise to a global urban movement and most cities now have a sizeable colony: a true smart ecosystem for improving social innovation. Between them they are home to hundreds of accelerators and thousands of smart places a…
Communication structure and collective actions in social media
2010
In this paper I present results a study of different types of social media communication and networking channels that allow for collective action (CA): Twitter, Jaiku / Qaiku, Ning and Facebook. My preliminary findings indicate, that the visual outlining and the structure of communication create different kinds of collectivity and collective actions. A status stream is effective for simple and fast repetitive mass actions and for individual mass broadcasting, while channels and threads are needed as a backchannel for more complicated, coordinated and iterative tasks and support a sense of community. When planning collective action on the Internet, ranging from citizen participation to marke…
Cloning and training collective intelligence with generative adversarial networks
2021
Industry 4.0 and highly automated critical infrastructure can be seen as cyber‐physical‐social systems controlled by the Collective Intelligence. Such systems are essential for the functioning of the society and economy. On one hand, they have flexible infrastructure of heterogeneous systems and assets. On the other hand, they are social systems, which include collaborating humans and artificial decision makers. Such (human plus machine) resources must be pre‐trained to perform their mission with high efficiency. Both human and machine learning approaches must be bridged to enable such training. The importance of these systems requires the anticipation of the potential and previously unknow…
Modelling complex dynamics and distributed generation of knowledge with bacterial-based algorithms
2014
Modelling swarm-intelligent systems for medical applications
2017
Modeling swarm intelligent systems has attracted attention of researchers over the last decade, as the attributes such as self-organization, self-regulation or collective behavior exhibited by the system entities while following a certain set of rules, can be implemented with the aim at investigating complexity of the problems that an individual would be unable to tackle in real world. In this keynote paper, meta-heuristics and paradigms of modeling swarm-intelligent systems will be discussed with respect to their application areas for medical purposes.
Commoning of territorial heritage and tools of participated sustainability for the production and enhancement of agro-environmental public goods
2021
AbstractThe purpose of this paper is to analyze how the commoning heritage processes find application for the production of agro-environmental public goods in contexts of high socio-economic marginality and environmental vulnerability, characterized by abandonment and from the consumption of agricultural land for food use. The purpose is to understand how these processes are able to influence, at local level, the governance processes for the implementation of environmental protection strategies. The survey made it possible to verify how the commoning processes aimed at the production of agro-environmental goods generate territorial resilience, understood as a community competence able to st…
Agile Deep Learning UAVs Operating in Smart Spaces: Collective Intelligence Versus “Mission-Impossible”
2017
The environments, in which we all live, are known to be complex and unpredictable. The complete discovery of these environments aiming to take full control over them is a “mission-impossible”, however, still in our common agenda. People intend to make their living spaces smarter utilizing innovations from the Internet of Things and Artificial Intelligence. Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) as very dynamic, autonomous and intelligent things capable to discover and control large areas are becoming important “inhabitants” within existing and future smart cities. Our concern in this paper is to challenge the potential of UAVs in situations, which are evolving fast in a way unseen before, e.g., em…
Bridging human and machine learning for the needs of collective intelligence development
2020
There are no doubts that artificial and human intelligence enhance and complement each other. They are stronger together as a team of Collective (Collaborative) Intelligence. Both require training for personal development and high performance. However, the approaches to training (human vs. machine learning) are traditionally very different. If one needs efficient hybrid collective intelligence team, e.g. for managing processes within the Industry 4.0, then all the team members have to learn together. In this paper we point out the need for bridging the gap between the human and machine learning, so that some approaches used in machine learning will be useful for humans and vice-versa, some …
Online Academic Networks as Knowledge Brokers: The Mediating Role of Organizational Support
2018
Placing online academic networks in the framework of social, cultural and institutional “deterritorialization,” the current paper aims at investigating the functionality of these new forms of transnational and trans-organizational aggregations as knowledge brokers. The emphasis is laid on the influence of human collective intelligence and consistent knowledge flows on research innovation, considering the role of organizational support within higher education systems. In this respect, the research relied on a questionnaire-based survey with 140 academics from European emerging countries, the data collected being processed via a partial least squares structural equation modelling technique. E…
